International Engineering Day for Sustainable Development celebrates the vital role engineers play in creating a more sustainable, innovative, and resilient world. Events at SETU highlight how engineering solutions help address global challenges especially climate change and clean energy.

Wind Energy: The Future for Ireland
We are heavily dependent on electricity for our quality of life. For our island, wind offers the potential to supply a lot of our energy requirements, while protecting the planet for future generations. A significant portion of this will be delivered off the coasts of Wexford and Waterford but there are significant engineering challenges in constructing and installing offshore turbines and getting the electricity to where it is needed. SETU Sustainable Energy Engineering lecturer, Colm Tynan will explain how these giant wind turbines will work and the potential and challenges of the technology in creating a brighter future.
